I love to exercise and generally eat a pretty ‘healthy’ vegan diet. I stayed active during my pregnancy and didn’t gain a lot of weight. However, between the first baby stress, sleep deprivation, lack of time, and work, I ended with 15 extra pounds postpartum that I could not shake. I tried for 3 years to lose the weight, but couldn’t. Although I was working out 3 times a week with a popular fitness app, walking and running regularly for cardio, and consuming all the fitness info I could get my hands on, I could not lose the weight. I was uncomfortable and unhappy with what I saw in the mirror (15lbs is a decent amount of weight for my short 5’3” frame). Even worse, I felt like a failure. As a generally hardworking and driven person, the fact that I could not get myself back to pre-baby weight (or even anywhere in the ballpark) haunted and preoccupied me. I compared myself to women who had ‘bounced back’ and felt worse and worse in my skin.
Then I met Alice. I learned of Alice, Sean, and Team Round through their podcast, Bodies, Barbells and Bagels (which I highly recommend if you have not listened before!). In listening to the podcast, it became clear to me that Alice and Sean are in a different league. They are educated professionals who understand nutrition, physiology, and have years of personal experience and hands-on coaching experience, training clients in the gym. They are honest and straightforward, not to mention, funny!
I hired Alice and she coached me through a dieting phase that lasted approximately 5 months during which I lost the 15lbs plus some. It was hard, but not as hard as living uncomfortably had been. Alice has the experience and intuition to know when to push and know when to ease up. My calories never got super low, and she was built in fairly frequent diet breaks to keep my metabolism churning and my morale high. She was able to time my diet breaks with family events and vacations so I never felt left out. She tailored my workouts to meet my needs and my schedule. During my diet phase, I worked out 4 days a week exclusively at home with minimal equipment (often while watching my son).
She then coached me through a reverse diet and worked my calories back up to well over 2000 while keeping my weight within 3lbs of my lowest. A year later, I am now a few weeks into a mini cut. I weigh the same as I did at the end of my diet phase but have packed on a load more muscle. At 43 years old, I am leaner and stronger than I have ever been in my adult life. And I have achieved my lifelong goal of being able to do a pull up! All thanks to Alice. My only regret is not hiring her sooner. When I think of all the money I’ve blown on gym gear, the comparative cost of personal training is minimal. I kick myself for not investing in smart one on one personal training like that delivered by Team Round sooner.
Now when I look in the mirror, I don’t see the failure, I see the muscle I’ve built with a well-rounded diet and smart strategic training. This is just the beginning. Thank you, Alice! Sending you gratitude daily xxx
